Kyol Che is the Korean version of the classical Buddhist or Zen sitting meditations. Kyol Che means ‘tight dharma’ due to it’s strict structure. Traditionally these retreats took place in winter and were up to three months long.

One can take up a Koan in the ‘dharma combat’ style but doesn’t have to. Koans in this style (e.g: Is the moon clever or stupid?) do have an answer. As long as one is caught in the frame of mind this particular koan represents one doesn’t find the answer, when stepping out of the frame one does. Fun to play with!
Life Koans, another set of koans used in the Awareness Intensive Retreats, don’t have an answer – they need to be experienced existentially, one has to become them.
One can work with a Mantra to keep the mind occupied.
The Kyol Che Meditation Retreat will be held in silence and isolation. Daily interviews are available.
